dodsworth_gti 11 Posted September 15, 2007 on my mi16 it starts, just, and its getting embarasing,1st of starter went, sent her in for a new one as i couldnt be chewwed to do it,got it back and was starting well, then started clicking and turning over slowely, then i found out it had a 8v starter on,changed this for a gti6 starter, and all was good on 1st time, but then its back to before, slow and clunky and clicky, some times it fires up well though which i cant understand, but i dont htink its on the proper wireing tbh,it has a random wire going from the starter direct to what looks like the barrel or where ever it goe's to up the steering coloumn end any chacks i can do to start eliminating problems? thanks ben
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted September 16, 2007 clean the earth strap contact points on the gearbox and chassis, refit them with serated washers. Starter wire direct from barrel to solenoid is a simple well known bypass for all the brown multiplugs to minimise any areas or high resistance due to corrosion etc. IIRC I put that wire in for Chris when I had the car as the original wire broke down somewhere.
