Will I Need Different Hoses For 266mm Brakes?

Recommended Posts

MikeHunt79

I should be getting some 266mm calipers/discs/pads soon, will the normal hoses be long enough, or will I have to get some fancy goodridge ones to make them fit?

Standard hoses should fit just fine, although it would be worth checking the condition of them as most original rubber hoses are perished now.

I take it you've changed the hubs to 1.9 spec ones too.

Base model hubs are fine as they're the same offset as 1.9 hubs (but with smaller splines/bearings).

It's 1.6 GTi hubs that are no good as they're a different offset.

Nice - I'll change them if I need so, but they are not the original hoses. I changed them a couple of years ago, so I guess it could go either way.

I have GSF near me tho, so I can get some more hoses with minimum hassle, as I want to get some decent brakes on before castle coombe.

Nope - apparently base model hubs are fine with 266mm brakes.

I've kept the same braided hoses that I had fitted with the standard brakes on mine & they are fine for length with 266mm brakes fitted.

I ran the 266 mm brakes with the standard hoses and they fitted fine.

Hmm, have I done something wrong? It looks like mine are too short...

This is with the 266mm brakes on:

Could I get some longer ones if I order 306 ones from GSF?

The rubber grommet should slide along the hose, fit it losely into the shock & turn full left/ right lock & see how tight they are then.

Don't forget you will gain a little extra hose when the weight of the car is back on the wheel due to shock compression.

Ahh, I thought the rubber grommet was fixed for some reason. <_<

I can get full lock right now with the rubber grommet not in the mount (both front wheels are off the gound), so with a little adjustment, I should have this working. :(

Just managed it! Moved the grommet, and it all fits, and the hose is fine on left and right lock.

Thanks! <_<

I've only just remembered this but if anyone has a 266mm caliper & yoke set up & a standard 1.9 GTi girling caliper & yoke set up off their car, can they try fitting the girling calipers on the 266mm yokes.

I've recently fitted the 266mm front disc setup onto my car but I have fitted two 48mm piston girling calipers (same size piston as the Bendix ones I removed) but I have a set of calipers with 54mm pistons that I'm sure I originally got with the yokes. :)

This would be a good thing to prove (mines not just luck) as it would stop the need for a bigger mc imo. Mines fine with a stand 21mm mc, infact with the girling caliper, pedal feel has improved.:)

Graham.
