Spring Rates With Standard Rear Beam

Recommended Posts

Guest Henry's Cat

Hi guys... this is my first post and I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I've used the search function and not managed to turn anything up...

I've got a 1988 205GTi 1.9 and I was wondering how hard a spring rate I can run at the front with the standard rear beam without inducing too much understeer?

I was thinking 160-170lb, how much stiffer percentage wise is that than standard?

Cheers

Ed

A mate of mine ran this on his 1.6 daily driver, rear height was standard with 309 heavy duty rear shocks with a recon beam, 160lbs gravel springs at standard ride height with bilstein sprintline front shocks was awesome on A and B road blats with no crashyness, my 1.9 standard setup handled like a boat in comparison. Spring length was about 270mm free length compared to standard 330mm, theres also an option of tarmac springs which are betweem 180-195lbs which tend to be lowered just make sure your shocks arent knackered.
