50/50 is the ideal, but it depends slightly on different makes of anti-freeze. I think 50/50 will protect down to minus 30 odd degrees, whereas a 1/3 mix will protect to minus 15 or so. Being ally blocked, the stronger mix will help with corrosion of the block.

And they take around 6 litres.

Do you mean to say antifreeze will corrode a ally block or help prevent it??????

Really you want to put as little anti-freeze in the engine as you can get away with...

Anti-freeze has a much lower specific heat capacity than water so the more you put in the less efficient you're cooling sytem will be.

How much you need depends on where you live, where you're car is kept and how its used, but yeah read what it says on the tin and make a juggement call on how cold your cars going to get this winter...

I've found its good if you do a trackday to let out some coolant and then top it back up with just water just to get the ratio down to around 20-25%, then when you get home let some more out and top it up with anti-freeze to get the ratio back to where you want it. Or preferably drain the whole system and use water wetter as that will offer the corrosion resistance without having such a detrimental effect on the efficiency of the system.

I live in London and I find that one third (2.2 litres) is perfect. If it needs topping up, I do so with anti-freeze during winter and water in the summer.

I used 1 litre of coolant, and 5 litres of water - perhaps I should add a little more coolant
