Massive Oil Leak Culprit Found?

Recommended Posts

Grim.Badger

About a month ago my 205 dropped all of it oil fairly rapidly; I though it was coming out of the HG like my last engine but whilst dismantling everything this weekend I found out that the dipstick tube had snapped it's weld and so was lose and free to move so I presume the oil was lost out of here. The lost oil ended up all over the driver side of the engine/brakes/arch etc and the cambelt was spitting it everywhere; I also found the thin breather pipe was full of oil.

Does this match up? The oil isn't discoloured at all and the engine was running fine when I stopped it with no smoke/steam.

Cheers ;)

If the bulk of the mess was at the rear of the engine, this would seem a suspect, if the mess was to the front of the engine, how are the oil cooler pipes? And, dare I say it, ios the filter still tightly fixed?. I'd imagine that the small breather being full would possibly be the rocker cover breather blocked, see if you can blow down it! UUGH!!!!

Yes, thats a good cause.

I've had an oil leak on mine for a while since I cleaned the breather system out after the MOT emissions were close to the limit. Turns out the hose from the side of the block to the filler neck had a split that ran to the outer side of the jubilee clip so it was leaking out of there.

Fixed that & then there was just a small leak at the back. The bracket that holds the tube to the back of the head had snapped off & the tube was loose so it was leaking out of there. Worse thing is the tube can't be removed with the exhaust manifold on.

Temporary repair & new sealant made it leak free again. :D

Graham.
