jtek 0 Posted September 10, 2007 i recently acquired a strut brace for my gti which i think was originally from a euro rallye, and as a result the bar originally made contact with the brake master cylinder. after a bit of 'reworking' there was a approx a 2mm gap between the bar and the end of the master cylinder. howver when i push on the brake pedal the cylinder moves slightly and makes connection with the bar. does this pose any real risk to the master cylinder? the braking feels no different as such so i think only light contact is being made with the bar. thanks
jackherer 543 Posted September 10, 2007 Thats good if anything, bracing the master cylinder to improve brake feel would be very worthwhile on a 205 due to the extremely flimsy bulkhead.
base-1 17 Posted September 10, 2007 What Kieran said. Cable tie a bit of foam or something in the gap to stop the paint getting rubbed off the strut brace and it rusting. You can buy Brake master cylinder "stoppers" for Japanese cars as an upgrade (for the typically ridiculous prices you have to pay for Jap stuff, of course)
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted September 10, 2007 Strange your having contact issues, never had a problem when it was fitted to my car.
jtek 0 Posted September 10, 2007 been driving it tonight and i can't really notice any difference in the brake feel so must just be making light contact, i have already taped over that section the bar to stop any damage so i guess its ok. thanks again
