John No doubt someone has had the ignition lock apart at some stage and couldn't get it back together properly. The bar for column locking can be taken from any 205 and your barrel fitted to it. Best thing to do would be to get a barrel out from a car at a scrappy (If they're common enough were you are?) to see how it all fits together, and sourcing your parts at the same time. steve@cornwall 100 Posted September 2, 2007 Is this a big job? Will i need a new steering column? Thanks for the help John I doubt you'll need the column. easy job to remove ignition barrel. You will need the key of the donor. Simple version is to remove the lower steering column cover plastic, remove the retaining screw from the top of the barrel. To access this screw, you may be lucky to manoeuvre a long screwdriver into position or possibly need to drop the column itself by removing the 4 (11mm) nuts that hold it in place. Some barrells have a bolt and not a screw here and these are easier to access (IMO) with a spanner. Now turn the key to the second (IIRC) click and press two pins (bars) in towards the barrell to allow you to withdraw the barrelll itself. These can be seen through cutouts in the column casing under the barrel. Once withdrawn I would suggest putting the ignition switch back to it's fully off position before dismantling as this will simplify re-assembly. The mechanical part of the ignition switch is held together to the electrical part by 2 screws. Once these are removed you can separate the 2 and the steering lock bar (which should be obvious by this point ) can be removed for fitting to yours.
john-melbourne 6 Posted September 2, 2007 Sorry for my stupidity, but is the steering lock bar inside the ignition barrel?
steve@cornwall 100 Posted September 2, 2007 Sorry for my stupidity, but is the steering lock bar inside the ignition barrel? It is, it's in the silver bit that sticks out under the black electrical block in this pic. (nicked off ebay!)
