Mi16 Crankshaft Oil Seal - Correct Fitted Depth?

Recommended Posts

Simon B

Hi all,

I was reading the Haynes manual regarding the crankshaft oil seals, in particular the flywheel end oil seal..... and it says to note the correct fitted depth of the seal. (this is a 1.9 Mi16 engine)

Assuming you were just building an engine from scratch, how far in do you push the seal?

.......... The outside edge of the seal flush with the block / flywheel mounting face on the end of the crank?

.......... Further in? But how far??

Any advice much appreciated as plenty of you must have built mi16 engines!!

Cheers

Nigel B

flush with the block face, the flywheel mounting surface sticks out a touch further.

Thanks for the reply welshpug! Thats kinda what I thought - but why doesnt the Haynes manual just say that?????????

Does anyone else have any thoughts / experience of this??

Sandy

"Polish" the crank surface with fine emery, where it sits in the seal, lasts longer that way.
