Moys1.9 0 Posted August 28, 2007 Had my car for about two years and done alot of work on the front end (engine and drive wize) but am a complete novice when it comes to the back. The car has always looked lower than standard but recently noticed that the rear O/S wheel isn't central. There's a good couple of inches between the tyre and arch at the front part of the arch but only about a quarter of an inch at the back!!! The wheel on the other side isn't central either but isn't as offset as the other one. A friend recently looked under the back end and said I was missing bump stops?? I've never really looked at this area before so don't have a clue where to start. Any ideas and how much. Done a search but couldn't find anything. cheers
joey 0 Posted August 28, 2007 howya well as regards the bummp stops its not a big issue..most likely wat has happened is the metal cup ehich holds in the rubber piece has corroded and just fell off, thats wat happened mine. Its pretty straightforward to replace them,(availaable from dealer @ about 7pound each) the hardest part will probably be to take off the 13mm bolt that is left in the chassis as it will be rusted solid.. some heat may be reqd. As for your wonky wheels im no expert myself but mabye your beam is bent, if it was in a crash? does it pull to either side wen driving in a straight line.. Moys1.9 0 Posted August 30, 2007 It has rare moments of pulling left momentarily but should mention my front top mounts need doing. There doesn't seem to be any other evidence of a crash. When it was last in the garage i asked them to have a really good look underneath as I've heard alot of bad things about people buying ex-accident 205's. Does anyone have a picture or exploded diagram of one? Don't know if there was one in the haynes but (unbelievably) I threw mine in a skip at the local tip by a accident
Guest wingnut Posted August 30, 2007 No, but mine has similar symptoms to yours....hmmm. I'm going to check front top mounts now as well! Check the front anti-roll bar bushes...and dare I say it, but the steering rack and track rod ends as well.
Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted August 30, 2007 check if you have camber on the back. Knackered bearings can cause the wheel to sit differently. Also check your rear bumper is actually where it is meant to be as if it has received a carpark knock it may have come closer
petesy71 0 Posted September 2, 2007 mine had similar symptoms when the rear beam mounts had began to dissintegrate, maybe worth checking these?
