Fitting 309 Beam

Recommended Posts

Spiky

we i just took my 205 beam off to fit my 309 beam (as quote's from this forum say it's a straight swap)

well the mounting points are different width on the 309 beam to the 205, so how can it be a direct fit??

or am i missing something here???

as the reab bolkts are about 1 inch wider and the front ones are about the same, maybe more

Turn the rubber mounting blocks 180 degrees and it goes straight on.

ok, after posting i realised the front one (with 2 bolts) as off set so turning them, is ok

but i'm putting solid bbm mounts on here so ther rears aren't offset???

With group a mounts you need to lever the beam across to match the holes on the car. With a 205 beam you need to bend outwards and a 309 beam you have to bend inwards. This is why Stew started selling the v.2 improved fit mounts that are more like the OE rubber bushes.

The newer style of BBM group A rear mounts should fit the same as the original ones with the offset studs but the block & bolt through ones do need the arm levering into place even on a 205 beam.

I was just wondering when I did my swap - do any of you bother getting your wheel alignment/tracking checked after a beam swap? Is it necessary?

Nothing has changed at the front & the rear can't be adjusted so I left mine as it was before fitting.
