Probs With Fuel Burn And A Mistery

Recommended Posts

pugbliss

hi,

been having probs with my pug and narrowed it down to the afm,

My question is..... apart from belonging to diffrent cars what is the diffrence between a 1.6 & a 1.9 AFM??????

I ask cos m car is a 1.6 yet seems to run better with a 1.9 afm in............. now this sems strange to me????? as the car gets a better fuel burn with it in than a 1.6 afm connected up..... i def know its a 1.6 enigine i have as i have matched up all the engine numbers and also is does not have the spacer plate on the sump!

any help appriciated.

spacer plate isn't the only factor, Ive seen 1.9's with no spacer. Maybe yours has a 1.9 cam and crank? Only real way to know is measure the stroke of the engine and inspect the cam.

The 1.9 AFM is larger internally. You can decrease the flow via the spring to match it, to a point, to the 1.6 engine. But this will not work the other way around.

However, it isn't surprising to find the 1.6 running better on the 1.9 AFM. You will likely find t responds well to the 1.9 ECU too.
