dirtdog 4 Posted August 25, 2007 Before I bought my car it was involved in a slight prang. It was put on a brake tester and the rear drums were found to have been oval. I replaced them and the car STILL moves up and down on the tester. I found out one of the stub axle is bent, likely from the bump. I've been told I have to replace the whole unit so I'm looking for some help. The car is a STDT model so I think it's got all the Gti goodies but if i'm to replace the axle I want to upgrade stuff while I'm at it. If I was to use a 1.9gti axle it'd be slightly wider than a 1.6 one yea? I've heard 306 gti6 brakes fit on(if you have hoses made up) so i'm planing on getting those. I also want to lower it 35mm. Somewhere I heard of someone putting 309 gti lower arms on? I'm no mechanic so..if someone could shine some light into why this is done and what else needs changing. Powerflex (polyurethrane) bushes are on my wish list. As for the steering side of things..anything I can do to stiffen it up as it has a little play, thanks
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted August 25, 2007 Best option is fit a complete 309 gti beam, 306 rear calipers do fit yes, as do pretty much any other peugeot rear calipers from the X05/X06 range. Another option is fitting ZX or 306 trailing arms as they have different toe in and camber built in. A search will reveal all. 1.9 and 1.6 beams arent any different other than the drum/disk changes. Not sure if the brake differences will make it seem slightly wider etc.
mmt 15 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi Will the ZX or 306 trailing arms fit onto the 205 beam(samr length and bearing size)? What about the ARB and the TB will the 205 units fit into the ZX or 306 trailing arms ?
