Mi Playing Up.

Yesterday just as i arrived at uni it decided to die... then wouldn't start. Didn't think about it too much, until i got it home (towtruck) and found there is fuel and spark still (I just presumed my wiring was responsible). Anyway, it did this just after i got it running, and i never found the problem. It decided to work when i roll started it, and has been fine for a month.

So, i have no idea what is wrong with it. I was thinking coolant temp sensor maybe, but now it is cold nothing has changed. Where else should i be looking, keeping in mind that it has spark and fuel, and was working fine until it just decided to stop yesterday. I had a quite competent mate look at it and he couldn't find any problems, and when it decided to work i didn't think about it again...

Now i want to get it sorted, but not quite sure where to start. Any ideas appreciated.

Fairly sure it is not coolant temp, as after swapping it nothing has changed...

Was last time i checked. It is flooding the thing and soaking the plugs, so i presume it is still working... i haven't pulled a hose off and checked that way though.

It is coughing now, but not catching. Last time it was doing this it roll started and was fine for 1500kms, so i can't work out what is going on... it is bloody irritating though.

Is your afm in good condition, or the wiring perhaps?

I've been over the wiring as much as possible, and it looks fine. I think the only joins that would could be an issue would be the switched live, earth and coil? They all look good though, so i've ruled that out.

Not sure on the afm - what do they do on startup? It has never idled well, but hasn't been too bad. I'm trying to swap as many bits as possible to try and find the issue though, so i'll find one and see what happens.

I'm not 100% whether the afm would affect startup, if it was knackered it really wouldn't help though i would imagine.

Would a dodgy coil be able to cause this? It cut out very suddenly suggesting something electrical, and now almost fires - as if the spark isn't quite right. It has always idled a bit rough, and after the 406 coupe coil died today i started to suspect this a bit more. I'm trying to line up one to test it with, so i'll know sometime soon.

I guess it was the coil then?!

Worse... it didn't have fuel, and only because of a blown fuse in the relay box. I'm not sure whether it blew for a reason, but it certainly goes better with petrol!

No idea how i got that wrong. I hadn't checked very closely this time, but thought it was the same prob as last time it didn't work... symptoms were identical anyway!!

I think my car is trying to drive me crazy. Since i replaced that fuse an injector clicked for a day, and now the AFM seems to be going nuts. It almost sounds like it is coughing (afm - not car), although it is driving pretty well.

Is this a sign of it dying, or perhaps something else odd is going on. I suspect the flap slamming shut is making the noise, but it only does it at idle, and then only sometimes. Surely if the AFM was going the car wouldn't drive very well?
