Beam Me Up

Recommended Posts

Another beam query I'm afraid. So I have stripped the beam and rebuilt it following the guide on the main page; working out from the centre of the beam this meant inner bearings, then outer bearings then the big black seal on the end of the tube (5154 08). So far so good.

However this (post 1991) diagram from Peugeot:

http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p58/kan...crossmember.jpg

shows an additional seal at item 10 (5154 10 exterior crossmember seal), as far as I can tell I never had one, (my beam was in v good condition when I stripped it), I haven't got one now and I don't know where it should go even if I did. (This is shown slightly differently on the beam refurb guide on the main page, diagram 3, item 10a - plug)

Is it supposed to be inserted before the outer bearing to stop water getting to the inner bearing if the main seal on the end of the tube is broken? (The beam was taken from a 1996 car)

I also have these plastic top hat things that weren't on the car originally and I can't see where they'd go or work it out from the previous post from which i stole the photo unless maybe to plug the exterioir holes in teh trailing arms if you didn't have an ARB. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p58/kan...parts0016yu.jpg

Any help much appreciated...

Could 10 be the goldy-coloured metal ring thing that goes around the black rubber seal? Looks too thick and too small a diameter in the pic though.

That cap thing in the photo looks like it's a thing to plug the beam mounting stud nut access holes in the boot floor.

5154 10 is the goldy coloured ring that the outer seal fits into & you will need them or there is nothing to hold it to the beam.

The plastic cap is probably as you said from the centre of the radius arm shaft on a base model beam that didn't have a rear arb.

My old L reg diesel had them & so have a couple of ther beams I've stripped from base models.

Graham.
