bales 1 Posted August 24, 2007 What do people tend to run tyre pressures at when using 195/50 15's in a stripped 205. It also has 2.0 turbo so is iron blocked and a bit more weight up front. So far I have about 29pis at front and about 27psi at the back. Any other people have any advice on how you work the pressures out. My other question is the next mod to my turbo will be lengthening the gears, what is the mod most people do? just change the final drive to a Td one, or do people change whole gear sets. Thanks Alex I thought that I was the only person who did that! LOL I think that it really depends on how you plan to drive the car. The standard 1.9 box has a long 1&2 and then close 3/4/5. I wanted to keep that configuration as it lends itself to midrange and higher acceleration and means that you keep the engine in the torque band. I originally wanted to fit a D FD (I think that I had visions of a 150mph 205!) but could only find a TD one at the time. I think that most people just fit a diesel gearbox as it's a lot less work. However, I think that the configurattion would be the opposite - shorter 1/2/3 with longer 4/5 ratios? From my experience the TD FD stretches all the gears by about 10%. You do notice the slight drop in acceleration but it makes the car a lot easier to drive as it's not wheelspinning through the first 3 gears. Driving was a lot more relaxed and you can let the torque do all the work. 4k in 5th is 80mph with the standard box but shows 88mph with the TD FD, so will easily pull past 135mph. Think I will prob go with the Td final drive if it just stretches all the ratios by approx 10% To be honest you are in a slightly different position than me as you have a TT engine which will rev more than mine. The problem with the xu10 turbo is that it is more like a Td in its characteristics, it doesnt rev past 5k rpm really so in 2nd that is only about 45mph so ideally I would like all the gears to be longer to widen the torque band. Top speed isn't really an issue as I don't go that fast hardly ever, though when I first got the engine in the speedo wasnt working properly and I was having a quick test on the motorway when it was quiet and managed to hit the limiter in 5th so that was probably around the 135mph mark which is more than quick enough in a 205 lol!
