Some Basic Questons.......

Hey........

 

A couple of questions.....

 

1. Where should my temp gauge be sitting? In stop start traffic it can get up to 3/4s... The motor is 168K old.. I have full service history and everything is good..... The temp really only starts to heat up when Im stop in traffic... So this might lead me to believe that my my thermo fan isnt kicking in...... If this isnt the case please set me right...

 

2. My oil pressure sits on 3/4 consistantly... It doesnt really move... hahaha.. Is this cool?

 

 

Please excuse the basic questions, I'm still waiting for my service book to arrive, 205 literature isnt that common in Australia.

All sounds pretty good there, as long as it doesnt go any higher on the coolant temp and the fans do work, do you have a/c like many Aus market peugeots?

 

As for the oil pressure tis not really a good indication of actual pressure as the gauges and senders always vary, but it does give an indicaton if theres anything wrong.

Mines an import.... But cheers..... I'm still finding my way on the 205 front. It does have a/c though.

Try a search as several picture of the dash guages in the normal positions have been posted before. (some by me).

Back again....

 

I'm still waiting for my tech manual to arrive in the mail and after some searching I struggled to find what sparkplug gap my 205 needs... Its a XU9JA motor and I've got a set of NGK BCPR5ES plugs. Some help on this would be much appreciated.

Chris,

 

The blessed Haynes book of lies states that the spark plug gap on XU9JA should be 0.9mm. Now get that feeler gauge out and have some fun.

They should be installed at 17Nm of torque if you're really getting excitable!

just to add, most plugs on the market nowadays arent adjustable, they come pre set to a certain gap.

 

if you get the correct spec plug specified for yer pug they'll go straight in no messing :D

I'll run a feeler gadge over them all to make sure they are all 0.9..... Cheers for the prompt reply guys.... I know you guys are asleep when I put up most of my posts me being in australia and all but thanks again..

Most plugs on the market are specified for a range of cars, most of these require a different gap setting.

 

The exceptions are platinum or irridium plugs where the feeler gauge can damage the coating on the electrode tips, and multi-electrode plugs

 

If your using normal NGK plugs (which i recomend... theyre standard fit on honda's and its fare to say honda know what theyre doing with engines) then re-gap them to suit your application :lol:

 

 

EDIT

I forgot to mention that things do get dropped in warehouses....... another reason to get the feeler gauges out or carefully eyeball them( if theyre coated or multi electrode) to make sure theyre all the same.

 

 

Also... i have heard a few horror stories about the bosch super4 plugs looseing electrodes in the engine :D

I honestly couldn't imagine the difference being that great between running your garden variety NGK plugs or the super fancy Bosch Super 4 plugs. If there is a difference I don't think it would be noticeable. Who is going to notice a 2 or 3 horsepower increase on the road. You would need to do 5 or 6 things that net 1 or 2 HP to have noticeable effect.....

 

But I will come clean and openly admit that I did think about getting a set of those Super 4 plugs, and Stonsie... You just justified my NGK choice for me...
