Starter Solenoid - Have I Tested This Right?

Recommended Posts

Pugdaddy

Have read a load of threads and following a rapidly worsening starting problem, I tried the running a wire from the solenoid to the battery test.

I've checked the earths, battery is fine and the car push starts every time.

I ran a wire from the spade connector on the solenoid (where the blud thin wire lives) to the battery +ve terminal. Get a clear spark at the battery but absolutely nothing from the solenoid or starter. Have I tested this right?

My understanding is that this means the wiring is OK but not the solenoid / starter. Is there anything more I can do to tell where the problem is? Or is it time to change the starter motor and solenoid? I assume you have to change these as one unit or do they come separately?

thanks

have you checked you have a good 12v feed on the starter main live? If you have then its probably best to just slap a new starter on there. get yourself an xu10 or xu9d starter.

Sorry for being naive, how do I test the feed to the starter as you suggest?

there is a large wire onto the solanoid, direct from the battery. you should have battery voltage at this wire at all times.

but i do doubt that that is your problem. if you have lived the starter direct it would of gone with a click indicating that the solanoid is ok. i personally think that the motor itself is the cause of your problems.
