Blish10 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Hi Has anyone had much experience with them? Especially the CatCams ones? I got one sent through the other day and when it arrived, the bit that locates it onto the camshaft was a sort of splitpin (i.e. round) but the notch on my camshaft is a square hole. I thought this was wrong so i put the original one back on. Phoned them up and they said it was too hard to machine a square notch into the pulley and it would fit anyway. Im still a bit wary about putting it back on incase it starts slipping or messing up somehow. Hope ive described it ok (mechanical knowledge not too good) Any ideas greatly appreciated Ta
brianthemagical 1 Posted August 21, 2007 (edited) thats how mine is. can't see it coming lose myself and mine works. edited to say the key is only there to line it up, the bolt tension (as mentioned below) is what keeps it in place. Stonesie 0 Posted August 21, 2007 If you do use it then it will only be the bolt tension against the very tip of the camshaft stopping it from spinning. Ford use the same system on the smaller Zetec engines (upto 1.7- the Yamaha derived lumps) but they have a larger area on the end of the cam and use streatch bolts. Personally i would try kent and piper cams to see if thiers fit properly...... or i beleeve the XUD9 diesel and DW8 diesel have vernier adjustment on the cam pullys, if they have the same number and shape of teeth, and fit the camshaft, your in
taylorspug 7 Posted August 21, 2007 IIRC either the Piper or Kent ones are exactly the same. Id just fit it, its not going anywhere with that located and the bolt torqued up correctly.

I agree, from what I remember the last time I had my vernier off the cam (a piper one) it also has a roll pin that holds it into the cam but once the bolt & washer are fitted it is held firmly into the cam & won't go anywhere. (the roll pin is under the washer / bolt head) Graham.
