Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted August 21, 2007 A friend is bringing home a bosch diagnostic machine from work later today, its a large hand held thing that plugs into most cars. Anyway it has a scope on it so we are hoping to meqasure the dwell on my coil's. Hoping someone can tell me what this entails? Is it a case of connect it to the live feed, switch the coil power on a measure how long it takes to charge, IE look at the current drawn and how long it takes? Or do I connect it with the engine running and check there etc. I need to find my cranking dwell an running dwell. Do the 2 connectors for the scope go in line or will it be one on the live and one on the earth? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Add a resistor of about 0.5-0.2 ohms (high wattage one) in series with the +feed and meashure over that. When coil is saturated the voltage drop over the resistor will drop significantly.
