dodsworth_gti 11 Posted August 20, 2007 hey ive managed to get a small hole in my petty tank right at the top,and i was wondering how to get it off the car as there is also some rusty bits i want to get to before they get any worse is the petrol tank worth fixing or should i get a new one,if so,where from? the hole is very small, probs 1mm max many thanks ben
danpug 1 Posted August 20, 2007 There are two or three bolts that hold it on, normally nice and rusty and at high risk of shearing off! You also need to undo the pipe in the wheelarch. If its only a tiny hole then i'd fix it personally.

Peetypug 5 Posted August 21, 2007 i'd fix it myself if i were you (dont know how but it can be done) make sure you have some wd40 or some penetrating oil, the bolts will get hot so give them a squirt and slacken and loosen them till they are free there are 2 main bolts that hold it on (just behind the rear beam) the exhaust has to come off, the heat shield and bracket that hold it on there is a dubilee clip in the rear arch for the filler neck 2 plugs one in the pump and one in the level sensor and then just the fuel lines i found it easier to drop the tank first before undoing the fuel lines you might as well check your brake lines while its off as well hope that helps
dodsworth_gti 11 Posted August 21, 2007 lovely, cheers people its on a 1.6 beam so only one pipe and its redundant on mine so might aswell rip it out while tank is of,it now go's through the car thanks again ben
