Coolant Change - Any Tips?

Recommended Posts

Dabz

Hi,

Could someone tell me where the bleeding screws are on a 1997 XU engine? Hoping to do a coolant change this weekend so any tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

there should be one on the top coolant pipe that goes to the heater matrix (back of the engine bay in the middle... its a plastic cap on top of the pipe that just unscrews by hand)

also - if it hasnt already been broken there should be one on the thermostat... its a T-shaped head (6mm hex i think?) but be careful when doing this back up as they are prone to snapping...

edit - not sure if that is true :( thought it was a 205 engine B)

the 205 will virtually bleed itself. use the heater martix bleed screw when you're filling it. then just run it up without the cap on, once the bubbles stop coming out it'll be fine

Are they not on the bleedin' hoses :)

Most radiators have a drain plug (but I remember one I had didn't so would just pull a bottom radiator hose off. Once it's drained you can flush it out with a hose pipe; take the top hose off the thermostate and flush through the radiator and then into the engine.

As said above, just leave the expansion tank cap off and run it up to temperature, you can bleed the top radiaotr hose (on the bulkhead) but I've always found as soon as its opening water comes out so it's never really got any air in it.
