SamGTi 0 Posted August 17, 2007 Please help asap - my car is in bits! How do I take the starter motor off my car? I know there are 3 bolts securing it on at the flywheel end but they are round. How do I get any grip to turn them? Do I need a special tool?
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted August 17, 2007 they are allen key bolts, 8mm IIRC. Have a look at the end of them
SamGTi 0 Posted August 17, 2007 Really? I did look but they looked nothing like allen key bolts. I will go and have another look. Thanks!
Grim.Badger 15 Posted August 17, 2007 Really? I did look but they looked nothing like allen key bolts. I will go and have another look. Thanks! There is a recess in the heads of the bolts that you stick the allen key into.
Alastairh 47 Posted August 17, 2007 They should be 8mm allen key bolts, but may of had some work done in the past and used the gear box 16mm bolts. If your really unlucky there might be a rear starter bracket fitted thats held on with 13mm bolts, but once you start removing bits to get to the starter all will become clear Alastair
