Atari Boy 11 Posted August 17, 2007 I have two areas that could do with guidance on, I have search about a bit but cant find the answers I need. Problem 1. When I start my 205 sometimes nothing happens, i.e. no starter motor or anything. I end up jump starting it and its right as rain. There seems no rhyme or reason to when this happens; 9/10 times it is fine. Problem 2. When my 205 has just been started from hold its idle ranges from say 500 to 1200 rpm, some times it can even stall. Once it is warm it is fine. Also it is warm and the fan kicks in then the idle problem comes back strange. Any guidance would be really appreciated .
Mikey G 3 Posted August 17, 2007 1) Sounds like a bad connection on the battery or earth lead, try moving the terminals and wires if it fails to start again, you may need to take them off and clean them up or if the cables are particularly bad replace them. 2) Do a search for SAD or Supplementary Air Device this controls your idle when cold and is prone to failing and sticking. Anthony 1,003 Posted August 17, 2007 Second issue is likely nothing to do with the SAD, although it's what most people will wrongly blame. Chances are that it's running too rich on idle, which makes the engine prone to hunting and occasionally stalling - something that's worse on cold starts (when it's running rich anyway) and when there's electrical load like fans, lights etc. Clean out the throttle body and breathers, set the idle speed for about 900rpm hot with full electrical load (ie lights, fans, heated screen etc) and on an emissions machine set the mixture to be approximately 1% CO. That fixes about 80% of 205's with idle problems like you describe.
DjB 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Your first issue could be your starter motor solanoid jamming up.... I had a Mitsubishi Galant Vr4 that had the same problem. It was a pain in the butt. I'm not 100% sure if 205s would be prone to this problem, Im a new 205 owner. If you can, try tapping the solonoid on the starter motor just to get you out of trouble untill you get a new starter motor, if that is problem..
