Oversize Big End & Main Bearings

Recommended Posts

Simon B

Hi all.....

I have an 1.9 mi16 engine in pieces at the moment, and have had the crank checked out, and been told it will require grinding to .5 on both the main and big end bearings

The question i have is... who can supply me with some .5 oversize bearings to suit? Preferably in a soft material (Aluminium).......

I believe QEP only supply upto .3, and Miles tells me he hasnt seen .5 main bearings!

Anyone have any ideas? Im sure someone here must have had a crank ground to .5???????????????? :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

The engineering shop that's doing the crank grind should be able to supply the bearings to match, maby they mean a 5 thou grind (0.127mm)...... some older engineers don't do metric

Cheers for the reply....

Unfortunately, he really does mean 0.5mm. I saw the crank being measured with my own eyes

We do have one place we can try that 'lists' oversized bearings specifically for the 1.9 mi16, but whether they ae available, who knows!!!

admittedly i dont have a very good understanding of these things, nor a very good memory, but i seem to recall my engine builder saying something about bearings for a diesel crank which came in a bigger oversize. Hope it helps

Yep you are absolutely correct, having looked through the engineers catalogues, we saw some diesel engine bearings (306 D Turbo for example i think) which were identical in 'size' to the mi16 bearings and went to .8, but without comparing them in the flesh to mi16 bearings, we dont know if they are the EXACTLY the same....

Cheers for your input though! I'm sure people must have used different bearings etc, just need to find out what!!

should think diesel bearings would be spot on, seeng as many people use the diesel cranks.
