rossi 0 Posted August 15, 2007 ello. i'm doing a 6 conversion this weekend with a mate. I've had a quick look around for a lifting point on my 1.9 8v (usin a block & tackle). I've got some spare seatbelt... so i could cut that up and hook it round something... what do you guys do? Also, i've got a magnex zorst system on my car (decat etc)... will I need a standard 205 manifold, or will the 306 fit onto the magnex downpipe?? Just double checking.. Cheers

Cheers There are 2 lifting eyes, the one on the left is easy to miss at first glance but looks like the one on the right which is pretty obvious Keep us all up to date with the conversion. Am doing my first at the moment!!
Baz 421 Posted August 16, 2007 Magnex's have a slightly larger bore size to the std systems and join to the manifolds in a different place to where the std 205 systems do. You'd need to adjust a std 205 downpipe to fit to the '6 manifold afaia anyway, but you need to get yourself one, preferably a decent make (eg. Arvin) with the split down the centre (acts like a 2-1), and from when i wanted to mate a Magnex system with 16v manifold; I'd cut the std downpipe just before it gets smaller in diameter (goes to 2.25" roughly), get some larger straight pipe to match the magnex system (2.5" iirc?), and join the two, therefore not having any of the smaller diameter pipe, no restrictions. Not ideal as obviously you're joining together stainless and mild steel, but someone with half decent Mig-welding skills could do it easily, just coat the welds in some paint afterwards to protect it, VHT paint ideally. Sorry if i've put you off after reading this, but the Magnex systems are quite different, and made to go with each other, not impossible but not easily inter-changable with the std systems. rossi 0 Posted August 16, 2007 Plop. Has anyone else managed any alternatives to welding pipes etc? 6 manifold to magnex system... Cheers for the info, but im sure there's a couple of ways of doing it..
rossi 0 Posted August 16, 2007 if the diameter of the bores are off, would a shim and clamp not fathom it??
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted August 16, 2007 205 downpipe will need a bit of modifying to fit onto the 6 manifold, I had to take about 2.5 inches off mine and reangle it slightly. Still not perfect but its doing its job until I can get a pro to make me one, or dig a pit to gain better access.
