Trick 1 Posted August 14, 2007 Is it the release or throwout bearing makes the rumbling type noise when the clutch is engaged? ie. when i dip the clutch the sound goes? If so, how difficult/expensive is this job to fix?
welshpug 1,666 Posted August 14, 2007 no that'll be the input shaft bearings.
Alastairh 47 Posted August 14, 2007 Personally would of said its more likely to be the thrust bearing, which comes with a clutch kit. Did you get a new clutch when you had the conversion done? Alastair
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted August 14, 2007 Mine's always rattled, stops when you press the cltuch in, it's usually just the thrust bearing vibrating on the input shaft.

Did you get a new clutch when you had the conversion done Alastair Thrust bearing - thats the one i was trying to remember. Heard the sound before and i was told that was the fault.? I assumed it would of been changed when i had the new clutch when the conversion was done - but maybe not...does it tend to be standard practice to change it? how do i tell if its just vibrating against the shaft, or if it needs changing? Green Machine 3 Posted August 14, 2007 if its a rumble then its the input shaft bearings, if its a whine then its the clutch release bearing
jackherer 543 Posted August 14, 2007 Its worth checking the gearbox hasn't come loose from the block too.

johny105_y2k 1 Posted August 19, 2007 i have had a similar problem with both being worn if you release the clutch so you can hear the noise then depress the clutch until the higher pitch noise goes(if there is one ) if not then the inout bearing i have both noises when the clutch is half depressed the main bearing stops and all u can hear is the thrust washer the thrust washer is a higher pitch and the gearbox a lower more rumbling rattle noise
