I Think My Be1 Clutch Is Siezed

Recommended Posts

Guest andrews_45

Can abybody pls help diagnose my problem. When i pulled out of some traffic lights my car wouldnt go into gear very easy. I managed to get it into second, but the clutch pedal did not come back up. I assumed the cable was damaged and fitted a new cable.

I am not sure how the gearbox works, but it appears that the cable fits into a bracket that levers and pushes a clutch release arm. The lever that the cable goes into moves freely but when it pushes against the other lever (that goes into the gearbox) it doesnt move it. I was thinking that maybe the clutch release bearing is stuck on the shaft?

I cannot see how it can be the clutch as it was working fine, if not very stiff before...

It sounds like you've lost the approx. 1" long metal pin that goes between the arm the cable attaches to and the arm that sticks out of the gearbox.

Looking at the picture that santos took. where he has put a tipex bottle i have nothing. Is that where the pin should go?

yep, there should be a spring there too, to stop the pin falling out if the clutch cable were to snap.

ah, so if I make a rod to the dimensions 45mm x diameter7mm rod- radiused both ends, I just slot it into the gap and it should work?

Cool, the rod you've machined will be identical to one you could buy from Peugeot. Its worth drilling a small hole in it and wiring it to something so if it ever falls out again you can retrieve it.

Edit: I only just noticed this thread is in completely the wrong section :):(

Can't remember the last time that I actually saw a BE1 caar fitted with that spring though, but yes, it should be there as you say.
