mos 1 Posted August 13, 2007 tried a search on this thinking it must have cropped up before, but to no avail what i could do with finding out is how much heavier a diesel engine eithe a n/a or t/d as there is probably not much in it) is than a iron block 2.0s16 engine. but if anyone knows how much heavier a diesel engine is than a 1.9 8valve or 16valve i can work it out from there its so i can decide if using the proper eibach 7001 springs would be best or if i am better off using the 7004 that are designed for use on diesel engine 205s such as the stdt etc... when i fitted the s16 engine the car did sit lower on the standard front suspension than it did with the 1.9 8valve engine in so i am not so sure if springs designed to be used with an 8valve car such as the eibach 7001 or the skip brown ones are a wise choice in these circumstances and something slightly more heavy duty is probably in order to compensate for the extra weight thanks mark
Grim.Badger 15 Posted August 13, 2007 The diesel engines will be lighter than the S16 as the head is smaller and the inlets are smaller/simpler. I will check the weight differences between the GTi and the diesels when I get home if I remember but I think they are about the same weight (obviously the alloys will make a difference but not much)
brianthemagical 1 Posted August 13, 2007 where the diesels not standard suspension? best bet would be to build the car on standard stuff then go from there, corner-weighting and stuff, then get a custom set if need be.
welshpug 1,657 Posted August 13, 2007 is it an N/A or Turbo diesel? TD's will be somewhere near the weight of the S16 with the turbo and pipework.

I don't think so, afaik the spring/damper rates for the NA and standard TDs are close to the XS, and the STDT is the same as the GTi. I saw a paper ages ago which had the damper rates on but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it

Yep and all the diesels except the STDT should only have the single lower suspension arms rather than wishbones like the GTi.
foreigner 0 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) Yep and all the diesels except the STDT should only have the single lower suspension arms rather than wishbones like the GTi. I kept standard stuff on my 205 1.6 when I changed to 1.9 td and it's ok for me but since lifting that 1.6 engine into jtek's 205 this morning I think there is considerable difference between them as we wouldn't be able to lift he 1.9 sitting next to it. STDT has apparently single traction arm too. However never seen it. Edited August 15, 2007 by foreigner
