Alternator Wiring?

Recommended Posts

Dj_mini

Im hoping some one can shed some light iv basicly removed all the wiring that i didnt need as i how have a digi dash so all iv got going to the alternator now is a positive feed from the batt / starter iv tryed two alternators on it and im getting nothing out of either so my question is does the alternator need anything other than a positive feed to work i was under the impresion that the regulator was built in and the other sensor wiring was just for the warning light on the std dash?

Cheers Dan

the warning light needs to be connected to excite it, although high revs should kick it into action as well.

The warning light has long gone lol! Iv found a website and from what i can gather i need to put a lamp from the warning lamp connection and a switched feed so the lamp will earth through the alternator and light up and then go out once the alternator is spining. Does this sound correct as per to "excite" the alternator?

Yes thats fine, the factory warning light is just a wire from the alternator to a bulb then another wire from the bulb to ignition switched 12v. Rather than a seperate switch you can just use an ignition switched 12v feed and then you may as well wire it up to a bulb/led on your dash somewhere as a battery warning light as its so simple to do. Don't forget to fuse it too, alternators sometimes fail pretty spectacularly...
