i have been looking on auto 5 at radiators the oe is £63 where as the alloy one is £45 has any seen the quality of the alloy one i can't understand why it would be so much cheaper than the oe. which would you recomend. the cars an 8v and used in hill climb, track days and general driving. is one better than the other? they don't have any descriptions on there so it's quite hard to know what your buying

The OE radiator is copper, which has better heat tranfer properties than alluminium, but it's heavier and more expensive. LOADS of people use the alloy ones without problems, even for track use.

euro parts stock the alloy ones from nissens, slightly cheaper than auto5 as well.

as do GSF, you have to ask for it though, as both ECP and GSF just sell what they can get hold of most of the time.

There was an article in PPC a little while ago about radiators and whilst the arguement for OE having copper tubes is valid, they claimed that they are welded in place using inferior heat trasfering materials which often negate the overall benefit of having the copper tubes.

We have fitted a Nissens, have had no problems at all, a good deal lighter (ours is a hillclimb car) and cheaper.
