Andrwn8304 0 Posted August 12, 2007 Okay a few days ago whilst out on a lengthy drive suddenly the "STOP" light came on along with the "Oil Pressure" Warning light and "Water Temperature" Light, Oil pressure gauge shows half to 3 quarters which is normal and the temp gauge shows to 3rd line which is also normal. The other strange thing is the Oil temperature gauge used to work and now it doesnt even after a long drive at 70 mph it used to read around the 1st to 2nd line. Could this be down to a faulty Oil Temperature sender unit putting these lights on or is the oil pressure sender unit any ideas would be appreciated. Could someone plz tell which senders are which and which is the 1 in the sump plz???????
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted August 12, 2007 Okay a few days ago whilst out on a lengthy drive suddenly the "STOP" light came on along with the "Oil Pressure" Warning light and "Water Temperature" Light, Oil pressure gauge shows half to 3 quarters which is normal and the temp gauge shows to 3rd line which is also normal. Stop light iscross wired to a few things such as brake fluid, brake pads, oil switch etc. If the guages are reading normal then try to elimante what is triggering it one by one, haynes wiring schematics will show you exactly what is wired to it so you can check. Usual suspect it a broken wire shorting against block or chassis or faulty coolant level sensor in the expansion tank. The other strange thing is the Oil temperature gauge used to work and now it doesnt even after a long drive at 70 mph it used to read around the 1st to 2nd line. usually down to a snapped wire and may be linked to the above issues if it is earthing itself against the block. on an 8v it should ruin from the brown multiplug in the engine bay down the back of the block and to the sender in the back of the sump. To test it just short it to the block and see if the guage responds. Could this be down to a faulty Oil Temperature sender unit putting these lights on or is the oil pressure sender unit any ideas would be appreciated. Could someone plz tell which senders are which and which is the 1 in the sump plz??????? as above, if the wire works then it will be the sender, if the wire doesnt than start with that. The other senders, 2 in front of block, the large cylindrical one is the oil pressure sender, the smaller one next to it is the oil pressure switch.
jackherer 543 Posted August 12, 2007 Stop light iscross wired to a few things such as brake fluid, brake pads, oil switch etc. The ONLY things that can trigger the stoplight are the low oil pressure switch and the coolant temp switch. If either set it off then both lights (oil pressure and water temp) will light up. Brake pads/fluid and coolant level are definitely not connected to it. As both oil pressure and water temp are showing as OK on your gauges you can be fairly sure the problem is either with one of the two switches I mentioned above or the wiring to them. The oil temperature is not connected to the stop light, so it looks like you have several wiring issues but they are all probably wires connected to the brown multiplug so they wont be hard to find.
