dch1950 37 1 Cars Posted August 11, 2007 Hi again, I rx'd a message from the guy making these (Paul aka 205turbo on this forum) as I'd asked about the possibility of an internal grease groove. He said this was being considered anyway along with a set of oil impregnated nylon bearings (Don't really know what that is).He has not said whether you have to buy the set (2 inners,2 outers) or whether they are available individually. At £80 the set I can't comment on the cost effectiveness. We'll have to wait and see how these pan out. What is a strong plus point is that provided the shafts aren't totally trashed then a clean and polish should see them being reusable. regards Dave

Anthony will be testing a set of oilon bearings when he gets back from the ring. The Material is a direct replacement to Phosphour Bronze, It was conceaved and developed in south africa for use in mining, It has amazing strength properties like the Phosphopur Bronze, A qoute from the makers "A complex blended oil lubrication system, uniformly distributed throughout the product guarantees constant performance over the whole service life of this exceptional oil-loaded nylon. Excellent sliding frictional properties, abrasion resistance and stick/slipperformance make this product a first choice for unlubricated moving parts." These will also be fit and forget bearings and the cost will be almost half the price of the phosphour bronze aqiverlent. We plan to offer a regrind service on old shafts, This will intail you send us your shafts and we will regrind and have the shaft service hardend and a matched set of bearings made. Cheers Paul

Cheers Paul all sounds good on the old shaft, any idea as yet how much this service would cost? I know of a citroen specialist that offers a similar service where IIRC they build the material back up before grinding to std. but I cant remember how much they charge! obviously it has to be cheaper than the cost of a new shaft I'm quite glad I didnt bin the 4 shafts I've got in the shed now I knew theyd come in usefull one day!
