Connectors For Sad And Engine Temperature Sensor

Recommended Posts

Phil205

Hi,

The 2-pin connectors for the SAD and Engine temperature sensor (located near the SAD) look to be of the same type.

I can't see how to separate the connectors ? Can anyone advise ? Do I just pull, or ??

Regards,

Phil

They have a little metal clip around the rim, which clips in to a ridge around the plastic housing. I find them a right bastard to undo and hate them. If the plug is facing the right way and you can see the opening in the clip, it's not too fiddly to get a screwdriver in and unclip it, but if you can only see the back of the clip it's more fiddly. Just have a play around but be careful not to damage the plug by being too 'gung ho'.

I can see the metal clip, but I can't see a gap in the metal, so it must be facing the wrong way !

Should I use a small flat blade screwdriver on the blind side ? How does the clip open ? i.e. which way do I wiggle the screwdriver ?

Is there any danger of losing part of the connector ?

Thanks,

Phil

You have to slide the ends of the clip to move it out of the way and allow the connectos to come off and yes there is every oportunity to drop said piece of wire but generally it doesn't go flying.

I'd recommend practicing on an easier to get at connector, like an injector, then have a go at the awkard ones.

Both the SAD ane ECU Temp sensor are easy enough to remove, so you could potentially remove them with the plug still connected and then try and remove it once you have better access to it and can turn it around and see what you are working with.

Once you can see the open side of the clip, you need to pry it to one side using a screwdriver or alternative, then when it prised far enough from plug you need to let it spring back against the body and not back in to it's grove and then you do the same with the other side of the clip. Once you have released both sides of the clip from the sides of the plug you can withdraw the plug from the sensor.

Sometimes it helps if you press down on the back of the clip (the opposite side to the 'open' side) as it may move forward very slightly giving you more clip to get hold of on the open side.

give them a good wiggle and they pop off easily, no need to faff about with the metal clip!
