pee vee 1 Posted August 8, 2007 (edited) my Mi16 seems to stay around 60 odd psi and just above when in use.. (3000 rpm onwards) im guessing that is the point where the relief spring opens? (standard spring) is that acceptable?? i dont think the thing is gonna die due to that lol... it dont really seem to go above the 65-70psi mark even when you are revving (not that ive noticed lol). should i be warey? lol using a mechanical gauge... also using running in oil (mineral oil) but to be honest i dont think that will make hardly any difference to the pressure. jim21070 2 Posted August 9, 2007 Sounds absolutely perfect to me I assume this is on a fully warmed-up engine? 60 psi at 3000 rpm is around 4 bars which equates to about 3/4 scale on the 205 electric pressure gauge. You're right, that is around the pressure that the relief valve starts to operate. What pressure are you seeing on hot idle? Dont worry if it is down at around 20 psi as long as it quickly rises off idle. Worry no more...
gsidave 3 Posted August 9, 2007 when mines hot and at around 4000 rpm its above the half way mark when its cold its closer to the three quarter mark is this normal sorry for hi jacking the thread
jim21070 2 Posted August 10, 2007 when mines hot and at around 4000 rpm its above the half way mark when its cold its closer to the three quarter mark is this normal sorry for hi jacking the thread Yep, totally normal. When the oil is cold and thick the pressure relief orifice is not sufficinently large to fully control oil pressure so it ends up little higher. With some engines and oils, the cold pressure can be off the scale. How the oil pressure is when hot is the important one. Nothing to worry about at all
pee vee 1 Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) 75 psi cold idle 30 ish psi hot idle as soon as you touch the throttle its on the up, 60 psi from 2000/2500rpm onwards. which is where it stays really (measured using brand new racetech mechanical/capillery gauge) just wanna find some way of testing the PTS sump baffle as im not sure how good its gonna be,,, 4 pint accusump is on the way just incase though. ive heard lots of good things about them.. good enough for Reyland, good enough for me lol thanks mate, good to know its about what its supposed to be. VisaGTi16v 1 Posted August 13, 2007 If thats the same baffle plate as I have, ive seen my gauge drop down to 30 or below in the wet around Graham Hill bend at Brands, about to fit an instant oil warning light of rigged up with this circuit board at work to get a better idea. However ive done 30 odd sprints and a load of them with slicks in the dry and the engine hasnt popped yet so......
pee vee 1 Posted August 14, 2007 its ok mate... ive worked it out PMSL its a mechanical gauge... its pretty accurate, but i THINK putting it round corners quick, gravity acts on it lol tends to loose some PSI on right handers, and gain it on Left handers lol... accusump still on the way though lol.. VisaGTi16v 1 Posted August 14, 2007 Should be the other way round! Unless you drive in reverse everywhere
Trick 1 Posted August 14, 2007 how easy is it fit an aftermarket oil pressure gauge? (novice -proof)?
