DaveK 0 Posted August 8, 2007 Which is which? Im assuming one is longer than the other or something? Ive got one that i removed that is fine but I mullered the end on the other one and the spring is exposed :S So only ned one really, though might be worth it just to replace both? Cheers, Dave
GLPoomobile 958 Posted August 8, 2007 For the small price and the ease of the job, you might as well replace both. You just know that if you don't, Sod's Law will come in to play and the one you didn't replace will snap a little further down the line. I have heard that they are different lengths, but visualising it in my head, I can't think of any reason why this is. But then I've only done it about twice and didn't actually have a proper look to see if there was an obvious reason for them being odd sizes.
sonofsam 5 Posted August 8, 2007 Way to tell wich side is wich, is to offer them upto the car and see where the mounting lugs line up with the ones on the bottom of the petrol tank, as they are sided the location of the lugs(rubber sleeve) on each cable is different I think. Hope this helps as it's how i checked mine (after I threw the pug bag away, lol) Sam.

Hope this helps as it's how i checked mine (after I threw the pug bag away, lol) Sam. Aha! I replaced my nearside one before selling my last GTI (was going to do both but GSF only had one in stock) and I'm sure the sleeve that pops in to the bracket under the tank was slideable (made up word ). So I guess if you get them from GSF they may be the same on both sides and you just slide the thingymabob in to the right place. Having said that, why would they have different part numbers? hengti 2 Posted August 8, 2007 the right hand cable is about an inch longer than the left hand cable as the tank is deeper on the right hand side of the car gen Pug cables are better quality than the GSF/ECP ones i've had two left hand cables (sorry - don't know part no) seem to fit better than a left and a right (you don't actually need the extra length in the right hand one); you'll have the problem of the rubber sleeves that Sam mentions being in the wrong place though. not a problem if you zip tie the cables into the clips (carefully hand-drill holes in the clips)
