Craigb 2 Posted August 7, 2007 I am looking at replacing the hard lines from the power steering hub to the hydraulic ram with flexible ones. purely because i can never get teh standard ones to seal . Does anyone know the thread dimensions for the lines cheers Craig

Dream Weaver 2 Posted August 9, 2007 I'm assuming I have the same problem also, as I have a nice big puddle of PAS fluid just under those pipes since I refit my PAS just before FCS. Can't use my car til I sort it
Peetypug 5 Posted August 9, 2007 i had the very same problem that was until i sorted it i drained the oil and took my engine out..... problem solved seriously though mine was a right pain in the a*se it seemed worse when hot after a long hard drive
Craigb 2 Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) I found a spare pipe last night . the threads are M12 x 1 . So if the local hose people are open on saturday morning , i'm going to pop down there to see if they can help ... Edited August 10, 2007 by Craigb
Ryan 99 Posted August 10, 2007 What sort of size is the pipe itself? If it's around 3/16" or 1/4" then is copper brake pipe a possible alternative? I find it seals easier than steel, and it's rated to 3000psi, which should be enough.
Craigb 2 Posted August 10, 2007 6mm steel , so copper could work , are there any issues with copper and power steering fluid ?
Ryan 99 Posted August 10, 2007 I don't think so. It's just hydraulic fluid really, same as you'd put in an automatic gearbox. My mate works in hydraulics so I'll double-check with him, but I'm pretty sure it would be OK.
vern 0 Posted August 10, 2007 I had a set of pipes made up at the local hydraulic shop was about £30 for stainless braided hoses, the can reuse the solid bit, just resecuring the new hose to it. I have never had any problems with the new hoses etc.

I have never had any problems with the new hoses etc. would like to know what fittings you used . i managed to get down to the local hose Specialist last week , and they said that they could do it , but looking at the adapters they were going to use , they wouldn't fit in the ram as the flanges were too large. i ended up fitting a spare OE pipe , which seem to be holding............
