Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

large

Hi all

I have just replaced my engine( second time in a week :) ). After i took it for a test drive on which i could smell gearbox oil as it was 10:00pm i parked the car up. This morrning when i moved it(tit from down the road keeps parking out side my house) there was a lot of oil on the road.

When i drained the box i only pulled the drive shafts, when it went back in i put about 2 liters of oil in it.

Have i over filled it and blowen the seals, or damaged the seals putting the drive shafts in and out.

Or will the oil find its level and every thing will be O.k.

I think its a BE3 box what sort of job is it to replace the seals.

it only takes a little tap to damage the seals. you should be able to see where its leaking from. if its the seals than replace them. on aBE3 box (not sure what you have ) the oil filler plug is also the level, so when the car is on a level surface just fill the box untill it starts coming back out.

make sure the gearbox bellhousing bolts are still tight, and check that the intermediate driveshaft bearing is located properly, the shaft doesn't have to be out by much for it to leak, especially if its over filled.
