Starter Motor Misshaps

Recommended Posts

djinuk

i have just fitted a new starter motor to my 205 1.9 gti, however when i turn the key strange things happen..

A is nothing happens you just hear a pump engage (fuel)

B is the motor turns at a slow tired pace and somtimes dies or the engine starts

c the motor spins freely engine starts no problem

d the motor turns slow, and then you hear it continue to spin until battery turned of, however it spins but is not turning over the engine.

can anybody enlighten me, have a fitted the motor incorrectly ?

you cant really get it wrong, its more likely to be a poor connection, i.e corrosion in the Brown multiplug (if you have one) and also the earth to the gearbox from the battery, get these right and it should be fine.

also check the positive feed from the battery yo the shunt box on the slam panel, its worth replacing the nut and cleaning up the surfaces with fine wet'n dry.

not really, just replace it, do a search for "brown multiplug" I posted some pictures of a superseal connector I fitted to my car which did the trick nicely.

you may find it best to replace a few lengths of wire from the plug to the starter ETC as they do have a hard life under that intake manifold.

There should be a guide in one of the bolt holes, if this is missing the starter can be just out of alignment.

Could also be a duff starter. It doesn't sound like typical brown multiplug problems but check it anyway.
