Peugeot 306 Xu7j4p Gearbox- What Ratios

Recommended Posts

Bally

I have a gearbox off the 306 with the xu7 16 valve engine. It has in a 3.9 final drive (75x19)

I want to know which gearbox to use for my turbo mi16.

Mi16 box with the std 4.4 final drive

Mi16 box with 4.1 final drive.

The Xu7 box

The 1.9 box??

Depends on what you are using the car for, cannot recomend anything without knowing that

I'd recommend a lower FD than that, and a Ltd slip diff,Itll just spin all over the place otherwise !,I used a 1.9 gearset and 3.56 diff for My friends 8v 205 2.0ltr turbo and that pulls harshly to the rev limiter in every gear and scrabbles for grip in all but 5th.

I used an Mi box on my 205 Gti6 conversion it was all completely wrong ,revved out way too quick and spent most of its time spinning up,so if it was that bad on a std engine I deffo wouldnt advise using it on 16v Turbo.

I think the thing with gearing is that its all down to personal preference and the type of use intended for the car .

Well Ideally im using it purely for the drag strip, I have a selection of gearboxes to choose from, 1.6 1.9 and the xsara gear box from the xu7j4p engine i have just removed. I want to use this box as it has the crank sensor already on it and i want to run this engine on carbs with electronic ignition. It would be handy to know what the ratios are so i can choose which final drive to pick. Thanks phill. p.s ive spent a lot of time reading about the effects of the final drive and also how important the drop in revs are in each gear, so im trying to get some figures of the ratios to work out these things.

As Peter T said at the begining of your post 1.9L gearset with 3.9 Diff,Mi box will be too revvy youll be changing up too quick and loosing seconds !

Hi wizzer thanks for your reply, I havnt started this post but found it in the search with no definitive answer to the original question. What ratios are in the xu7j4p be3 box? I didnt really want recomendations or opinions on which box i should be using just the hard numbers of the gears in this box if any body knows. And as for the sugestion in my opinion peter t is spot on with the gearbox sugestion for an mi16 turbo but ive not got a turbo so therefore i feel this box would be too long for me and i would be dropping out of the power band of the ux7 engine.

As you said, I never got a definitive answer of the ratios in the Xu7 box, how ever I did end up wit ha Mi16 box with a 4.1 final drive as my gearbox for the turbo Mi16, Where I live is only 166sqmiles so I dont have any extremely long highways and the car may only be used for 1/4 mile sprints occasionally, so thats what I am trying now.

What engine you using mate ?,We have used the Xsara VTS box with good results in the past but that has been with Gti6 engines in 205's,Used 1.9 Gti box's on Cammed Mi units but they used to be a fraction too tall,And I always found the Mi box a bit too close and crazy, I wasnt brave enough to start building my own custom boxes at that point, dunno what I was worried about really Its so easy ! just wish I had been a bit more adventurous !!.

Need any more help mail me.

Hi wizzer, im using a 1.8 16 valve xu7j4p removed from an r reg xsara, it wasnt a special vtr or vts just a plain and simple five door car. I have basicly put the 1.9 gearbox on now as the engine needed to go in and i couldnt wait for the figures so i could work out which FD to use with that box. Still asking for the figures if anybody knows? Cheers phill
