You only really need a back box.

 

The 6 exhaust manifold is good enough/work of art, and it being long enough that you have to chop a down pipe up, it seems pointless buying a stainless perfomance one if it has to be chopped up, and is they're really any gain?

 

Plus the standard down pipes and mid sections can cope with 200+ bhp proven.

 

So a back box for looks and a little noise

yep, I'd highly recommend them, from seeing what DES developments did recenmtly for a 200bhp carbed MI16 i'd reccomend a good sized centre section (length wise not diameter) 2" 1/4 pipe to a backbox (doesnt need to be too big) and 1"7/8 ths tailpipe, IIRC it was measured at 86 decibels but with a sweet note.

 

(mid to back box pipe MAY be 2", I will try to find out for you)

I don't think its so much the case of losing power, but more of not losing any!

 

My understanding is that you won't lose anything from a good standard exhaust, like an OE pug or an Arvin-Mettler one as they are very well designed.

Coupled with the gti-6 exhaust manifold it should be great.

I think Maxi was even running a cheap Bosal exhaust, and that didn't restrict the power on his extensively modified engine.

 

However, are you looking for it to be a bit louder as Alastair says?

well i certianlly dont want a restrictive exhaust

 

i dont want a loud one, as i want to get on ANY track, without having to worry about noise

 

making any 205 exhause fit is not a problem, as i have a lot of faith in my mate with a welder, i just need a 205 exhaust that is best for my conversion

Then they'res no real need to go to one of these make your own personal exhaust companies when you've got a mate whos good.

 

Mine is a standard item without the split but with a standard back box. Although if i can track down a magnex back box i'll chuck that on for looks really, and maybe get rid of the mid section (its rather low ), and they're not really that loud, so you should be fine for track.

 

Trust me, they're not restrictive considering what cars you can go past with a 6 lump in a 205, and i know Maxi was having a long discussion ages ago about his standard pipe when running 216 bhp

Our revised GpN system incorporating 2 1/4" front section, 2" rear and back box and 1 7/8" tailpipe has now been tested.

 

On a 205 mi16 with twin 45 DHLA carbs and standard downpipe, a slight increase in torque at the top end has been achieved over the Pug Sport item at the expense of a small amount of low down torque. The system was noise tested independantly at Castle Coombe at 88db making it very quiet while giving better top end performance. Best of both worlds!!

 

Price for centre and rear section is £225+VAT.

Personally thats what id do.

 

Spend the money on some more fun mods for a track car, like some bigger torsion/Arb bars

I was going to get the DES stainless Group N the other week, but my AFM went tits the day I was supposed to drive up there. The current mild steel group N mid pipe (also from DES) has a big hole which I think was due to a coming together with a log that bent the pipe and ripped the hanger off

 

I can also tell you that they want £18 for postage for the system, but will fit it for free if you are a PSOOC member. Although Neil still offered me free fitting when I said I was only a member of 'drivers'.

 

But now I'm thinking it's not really worth shelling out nearly £300 on a new system. I might just either get another mild steel mid section (which are peanuts IIRC) or maybe get an OE mid section and back box.

hoping this wont cuse ny problems?

 

will changing just the back box make much difference? as the middle section will still be a small pipe?
