Gearbox Stiff

Recommended Posts

Furiousd

I have a BE3 gear box which has become stiff to get into gear. This 1st started about 6 months ago (When I 1st got it) but I figured out that the matt was slipping under the clutch pedal stopping it from fully disengaging. I am now having the same problem again without the matt (I;ve checked).

Could it just be the clutch needs raising up as you really have to push it into the carpet (Its left a mark!) or is it time for a new 'box?

It often crunches into reverse, not too worried about this just though i'd mention it.

Probablyworth just tightening the clutch cable. Does it bite quite low/near the floor? If it does I'd just tighten the cable; if you jack the car up you can see the cable under neath near the battery, it should have a 13mm nut and a 10mm locknut, tighten these two and the pedal will raise up and it will probably feel better too.

Thanks, it does bite low, I'll tighten it up and see if it helps. Is it worth changing the gearbox oil as well as I'm not sure when this was last done?

with the reverse gear crunching, try depressing the clutc select 2nd dont engagethe clutch and then select reverse. it should eliminate the crunching sounds.

Might be a idea to get a new clutch cable, OE Pug ones are the best and only a couple of quid more than the cheap'e' factor ones
