Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted July 28, 2007 I have just put my 1.9 lump in my 1.6 but i am having to use the 1.6 dizzy, will it work? If not why not it will work but the advance weights will be sprung differently, so the advance igntion timing will be wrong.
large 33 Posted July 28, 2007 Sorry i'm not 100% what you mean (it's late and i'm thick) but as long as she will run happy days
boombang 2 Posted July 29, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributor have a quick read here as it explains it pretty well. Notably: "The distributor also houses the centrifugal advance unit: a set of hinged weights attached to the distributor shaft, that cause the breaker points mounting plate to slightly rotate and advance the spark timing with higher engine rpm. In addition, the distributor has a vacuum advance unit that advances the timing even further as a function of the vacuum in the inlet manifold" Basically weights spin round changing the timing of the ignition - a 1.6 dizzy is made differently to a 1.9 so they will work, just not be optimal for that engine and likely to lose you performance.
