rally ax 0 Posted July 25, 2007 I was just wondering what a safe or normal oil temp was ? I've just fitted a SPA oil pressure/temp guage and was monitoring the temp on the rally we did at the weekend. It was going as high as 134 deg C !,that was during a 13 mile stage taking the engine to 8000rpm in every gear (TU3 engine). The water temp was nearly 105 ,I'm thinking about fitting a new rad just in case the one fitted is choked a bit ? ideas please Garry

rally ax 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Cheers for that !,,I'll go for the radiator first because I don't know its history. There seems to be a choice between Valeo and Nissens,,anyone got any experiences with either ? good, bad in-different ? ,Garry
Sandy 191 Posted July 25, 2007 Are you using the rallye or VTS heat exchanger? If not, I'd get one in preference to an air-oil cooler. If so you need to improve the rad cooling. The rad size is probably fine as long as it's alloy and clean, fitting a new almost always helps. If not, pay attention to guiding the air through it better; bigger rad means more weight, slower warm up and is ususally a hassle frankly. 134C with good synthetic oil is ok, as long as you change it fairly frequently. Also is the sensor in the sump or the block?
