watford1gti 0 Posted July 24, 2007 hello all, i havent been a member on here or 205gti owner for long and already im posting on here with problems where do i start, first of all its a 1.6gti with a k&n and exhaust now the problem i took the car out for a drive, she was no more lumpy than usual from cold, then i took ot for a little drive then when i put my foot down there was no power and it sounded like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders. also it would sort of survive ticking over but when revved the little light on the dash (looks like a radiator/cooling sign) lights time with the lumpyness, i checked the coolent and it needed a bit of a top up. ive got a new dissy cap, rotor arm, plugs, leads and oil and filter to do a service already on order because i was going to do a service anyway, any help would be much appreciated matt
Smigzy 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Hi mate, i had the same problem, it started off using a bit of coolant evey week, then after a bit of a fruitful drive, it sounded as though it was running on 3 cylinders. It turned out to be the cylinder head gasket. Is there any oil in the coolant or vice versa? Does the coolant tank smell of fuel? How much of a top up did it need? Does it use coolant often? Best thing to do would probably take it to a garage for a compression test to see if the gasket has gone. Other than that mate, i dont have a clue!! Hope you get it sorted! luggy 13 Posted July 24, 2007 When starting from cold my 8v used to run on 3 cylinders for the first 20-30 secs. When I recently serviced it I changed the plugs and put copper grease on the threads, problem solved.
