Urgent Help - Rear Axel Removal...

Recommended Posts

DanS1982

Right I've tried everything to get the axel off the rear passanger side to try and lower the beam. I have done one side, and it came off with just a trist and pull. But the other is stuck on solid.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to remove it please? I've been told to try heat treatment?? - Any advice on this?

Cheers,

Dan

First thing I tried. Even wacking it with it on the winch didn't get the bugger off. The other side almost fell off though! :)

Are you just trying to take the trailing arms out of the beam tube, or the torsion bars out of the trailing arms? If its the former then it sounds like the beam is properly seized...

Torion bars from the radius arms as per the instructions on this site for lowering the beam. The splines are stuck firm it seems!

make sure the weiogth of the trailing arm isnt suspended by the torsion bar as this adds to the force needed to remove them.

Torion bars from the radius arms as per the instructions on this site for lowering the beam. The splines are stuck firm it seems!

If you can mark both ends if the beam then undo the 13mm nut at the opposite end & take the whole radius arm off & then put an old M8 bolt into the end of the torsion bar & hit it out of the radius arm off the car. Then loosely re-assemble it to the same place after ckleaning & greasing the splines before lowering it one spline that way. Either that or do the same to the opposite side & set your ride height by measuring the same distance between the shock mounting bolt centres (or making a dummy shock) & refit the torsion bars with the arms set on the car.

You have removed the Torx bolt & offset washer haven't you? ;)

Graham.
