Car Cutting Out And Running Rough

Recommended Posts

driving my 205 gti 1.6 home yesterday it all of a sudden started kangerooing, juddering and dropping the revs it would then try and pick up again with lots of popping and banging, thought it could be low on fuel so filled it up the next day and tried again it starts up fine in neutral and will rev happily, took it for a drive was fine for a few minutes then the same thing happened again, the car kept dieing and juddering badly. any ideas what this could be? i suspect it could be a problem of the car not getting fuel but theres no leaks and all pipe work seems fine

thanks

UPDATE: changed the fuel filter, drove around was fine but then the same thing happened again, its when the cars temperature gets above a certain point (just before the fan cuts in) it seems to just lose all power when you try and pull off, revs drop instantly and if it pulls off it you have to rev it high but it will still splutter and die,, any ideas? im not sure if it could be the fuel pump seems strange that on the 3 times its done it, it's when the car has got to a higher temperature

Hello,

I have been having this problem at the moment... mine certainly feels blocked... like the pressure builds up and then all of a sudden bursts through and you bang on forwards...

Just out of interest I put some super unleaded in and the car is fine... really odd... it wasnt a bad batch of fuel before because I had several fills from various places... I didnt expect any differences but the car has been running perfectly and the idle is far better than before when you needed loads of revs to stop it bouncing... The car started doing this about 1 week ago and is most odd... I tried putting some injector cleaner in but nit sure if that helped... I had also thought fuel filter and aiming to change it tomorrow.

James

I changed a fuel pump the other day and eventually found out problem was ecu so you can have it for a few quid if you need it, if someone can tell me how to test it (just to double check).

Cheers
