Offesets And Wheel Fitment

I have done a search and I think I understand what I have read but if someone would clarify it would be apprecaited.

 

I have a set of 15" 7J ET27 Compomotive alloys.

 

I gather that with a 10mm spacer at the back, these will be fine.

 

My issue is with the front, clearly you can't run a spacer due to excessive bearing wear, but is it possible that they will fit at the front?

 

It's on 1.9 hubs if that helps.

a spacer up front wont be a problem, its when you over space them it becomes an issue due to suspension geometry.

That's useful to know, what would be the maxiumum that you can use, I assume that a 10mm will reduce the ET to 17 which would be more akin to a standard wheel.

With a 10MM spacer i would suggest longer will bolts as it will put alot of strain on the threads that are actually going into the hub, however it does depend on what lengh bolt you start of with.

Thats annoying, i've just got some 60mm studs on the group buy, suppose these would be to short. ho hum.

Depends really, screw a nut on the stud so its just all the way on and then place this threw one of the holes of the wheels and measure how much stud you have sticking out the back.....

Bear in mind that a 6" wheel is close enough when you bolt an ET 28 on (I've got 16" nimrods on my 309) so a 7" wheel would be just as close with a 10mm spacer as its wider.

 

To allow the same clearance as a standard GTi wheel you'd need about 15 - 20 mm spacer.

As a rough safety guide, the MSA stipulate that for competition vehicles, the bolt/stud must have at least 12 complete turns in the hub and a friend of mine nearly failed scruiteneering once when one very picky scruiteneer actually checked this and found his to be 11.5. Bit pedantic but rules are rules.
