Gti6 Starter Motor Onto Xu9j4

Recommended Posts

I have bought a GTI6 starter motor off eBay for only £20 including postage. Something of a bargain as it looks almost new.

Anyway, the sections of the starter body that the bolts go through look slightly larger that the standard old skool XU starters, is this going to be a problem? Will I need longer bolts?

(Sorry had to use imageshack, forum's uploading thingy didn't work)

It's fine and an easy swap - just need to swap the starter solenoid wire over to a ring rather than spade connector

Oh and err.. is there an easy was to test it works before I fit it? Only asking because the postman dropped it as he was walking up the drive. :)

Jump leads on a battery, negative to the starter body, positive to the big stud, and then touch a wire between positive and the solenoid stud to engage the starter (and watch it jump across the floor in an amusing fashion)

Not sure if there's enough room to remove the starter with removing the inlet/radiator or not on a 405 - I'd imagine that there is as there's quite alot of room at the front, unlike when the engine is installed in it's rightful home...
