Best Brakes In Gti 1.9 Standard Wheels?

Recommended Posts

I want to get the best that fit in my standard wheels, what is better? Wilwood 4-pot? 307 HDI 283mm? 266? Must I keep the standard master cylinder or get a bigger one? I don't want that they locking up easily. Have I to remove the rear compensator? Cheers.

expect this'll cause some consternation, but there's really not much wrong with the standard brakes..

what're you using the car for?

as above, good set of plain discs and uprated pads with new fluid cant be beaten for modulation and power, 283mm seems to be rather excessive for such a light car.

i've been in a 1.6 rally car and boy did that thing stand on its nose when my mate leaned hard on the brake! (slippy diff helped a lot too I think!)

using the 307 or 206 gti180 brakes the stf MC will be fine,

using the gti6 calipers, you get more travel, so a 406 non abs Mc would be better

I use the car in road, but I like to drive in mountain roads. The next year I'll began to run in trackdays.

try (in this order): good brake fluid (eg. Castrol Response), uprated front pads, uprated front discs, braided hoses.. before spending a lot of money (relatively speaking) on new calipers etc

you'll have no problems in an otherwise standard car on track days/etc with the above - but, a lot depends upon how you want your brakes to feel..

Now I'm using AP600 brake fluid, braides hoses, Galfer brake pads and grooved discs.

Think it depends on your power levels.

I have top spec fluid, new calipers, discs and pads all round, including ATE POwer grooved/vented up front with Ferodo DS Performance pads. In general they are good, but I was struggling to stop the thing on Sunday over the Snake Pass (mountain type road).

It was fading a bit and only just stopping, but maybe thats my setup at fault.

i have totally standard discs and pads, they are delphi ones the pads still have loads left on them and that with a good few trackdays and a few thousand miles of road abuse. for some reason i don't seem to suffer from brake fade at all.

by the way, snake pass is good fun ain't it
