Blish10 0 Posted July 19, 2007 Hi guys Im in need of some help. My 1.6 wont start. Sparking all ok, but no fuel there. You can feel the relay clicking when ignition turned on. I have just replaced the pump. But when taking the hose off the start of the fuel rail, a little trickles out but its hardly any and then none comes out when cranking. I dont recall ever being able to hear my pump priming either, so I guess I should be checking its priming with a wire from battery?? Also as I was cranking it last night, the fuel guage was stuck on 0 (so I went and got some petrol, just in case I was a complete idiot-I wasnt, there was plenty), then this morning after fiddling with the wires, the fuel guage works with ignition on. A lose connection on pump? What is the next step? Is a blockage in fuel line likely? I have done a search and read through loads which has taken me up to this point Any help greatly appreciated Cheers
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 19, 2007 first step would be checking for voltage at the fuel pump, if its not got any then Id suspect tachy relay first or fuse. Once both of these are ruled out then you need to start tracing wires to check where it loses voltage. If it has voltage then it must be pump failure. Alastairh 47 Posted July 19, 2007 Get a multimeter on the fuel pump power supply. Check the earth behind the passsenger rear cluster. That should give you more of an idea whats going on!

Blish10 0 Posted July 20, 2007 Ok. Kept chopping and changing relays and fiddling with plugs and wires, as I didnt have a multimeter handy, then I borrowed an ecu off someone I knew, plugged it in and it fired straight up. Little bit jumpy but it seemed to smooth itself out. Had me puzzled for a few days that one
